First Report from the Sandpit!

WE HAVE ARRIVED!!

It’s hot, it’s sandy, it’s very fancy, and it’s our new home. We’ve had a relaxing few days since arriving in Dubai last Wednesday morning and have almost recovered from jet lag. Though there have been some rough moments adjusting to this new normal, we’re confident in the Lord’s transforming and sustaining grace for each day.

Friday we got to experience our first sand storm and our first meeting with our new church! In the midst of an onslaught of new experiences, it was very encouraging singing familiar songs and reading familiar Scriptures with brothers and sisters from many nations.

THANK YOU

A necessary part of our transition to Dubai was getting a number of official documents authenticated by three different authenticating offices. Many friends–old and new–served us at key moments along the way and we want to say THANK YOU! Joe and Bri, Megan and James, Reagan, Caroline, Daniel, Abby, Betsy, Danny, and Carlos–we are so grateful for your help! Here are some fantastic selfies we received from some of those who helped:

FIRST FOCUS MEETING

Sunday morning we joined our first weekly meeting with the FOCUS leaders. It was exciting to meet the brothers and sisters we’ll be spending the next couple of years serving alongside. They are a joyful, hard-working, well-loving crew. Our time together was spent catching up on each other’s summer travels, studying Psalm 98 together, and making preparations for next week’s highly anticipated FOCUS retreat.

LOOKING AHEAD

Here’s what we have in store the next couple of weeks:

  • Applying for our visas and looking for an apartment

  • Participating in FOCUS week August 16-23 (intense Bible study and fellowship with unbelieving and believing university students)

  • Getting to know the 3 university campuses we will be spending time on with the Dubai West FOCUS team.

PRAY FOR US

  • That our visa application and apartment hunting would go smoothly

  • For strength, humility, and joy in the preparations and execution of FOCUS week (starting this Friday)

  • Rest and renewal from drinking daily from the living water of Christ

  • To be captivated by the grace and wonder of today and not worry about or fear the unknowns of tomorrow

For you, O LORD, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love toall who call upon you.
