Day 3: Kaleb

Praise God for more progress

Praise God the Father of our Lord Jesus!

Today we saw more positive progress in Kaleb.

  • His lactic acid dropped to 1.8 and by the end of the day it dropped to 1.2, a much more normal level for this point in a newborn’s life.

  • He started urinating A LOT, every time we turned around his urinary tube had new streams of “liquid gold” as the Cardiology medical team calls it. (Urination is a sign his heart is getting oxygenated blood to necessary organs)

  • Because of this progress they took him off the muscle relaxer and antibiotics and are looking at beginning to feed him small amounts of breastmilk.

These are all good signs his overall well-being is getting better.

Plus, Zion and River got to meet their new baby brother for the first time today! Zion was more brave than I imagined and River handled it like we expected an 18 month old to handle it—didn’t want to get near all of the machines.

Kaleb’s nurse today was Michael, a 25 year veteran in this hospital, he took excellent care of Kaleb. Michael is very kind and enjoyable to have conversation with, even though he’s a Maryland native he shared my appreciation for the state of Indiana’s basketball heritage. He was also very helpful with Zion and answered all of his questions.

THANK YOU for your constant prayers and notes of encouragement.

Brittany and I returned home this afternoon, exhausted and emotional, but God is sustaining us one day at a time. And we are so grateful.
