Discharged!
After a day of uncertainty, Inova gave us the green light to bring Kaleb home and continue our journey!

Just a quick note to say Kaleb was just discharged! We are so thankful for the team at Inova for their attention to detail, care for patients and their families, and excellence in their medical care. Dr. Closson, who took Kaleb on, was so helpful and careful with him, talking with his cardiologist in Boston Children’s along the way to make sure he was receiving the best care. His urine output improved today so he felt comfortable enough to discharge him today—the best birthday present I could ask for!
PLEASE PRAY:
That God would keep Kaleb and us healthy and safe for the remainder of this trip (planning on heading towards Boston the second week of July)
That we would be a blessing wherever we go.
For those interested…
The reason Kaleb’s urine output was a concern is because cardiac patients require a balancing act with their fluids - too little fluid in their body and they’re dehydrated; too much fluid in their body (and therefore blood) and the heart has to work harder to pump blood where it needs to go. In kaleb’s case, the fact that he wasn’t peeing enough (relative to how much fluid he takes in through formula feeds) could have meant that that fluid was staying on his body and making his heart work harder. OR it could mean that he was dehydrated and needed more fluid, but they have to be very careful to not give him too much fluid and overwork his heart. The amount that he loses through his G-tube discharge also comes into the equation. So, they discharged us with some math to use, taking into account all of his fluid numbers, to know when and how much fluid to give him to make sure he stays hydrated.
Isn’t the human body amazing?!
