Surgery Day!

Kaleb's surgery is scheduled for 4pm today (Wednesday)

We've been enjoying a wonderful week here in Boston, including celebrating the resurrection of our Savior on a glorious Spring day, and have made some memories as a family before Kaleb is admitted to the hospital for his surgery today.

Here's a run-down of what he's having:

  • GJ tube placement

  • Tongue tie fix

  • Bronchoscopy

  • Circumcision

We are so excited for the GJ as it means we'll be able to see his sweet face without tape on it (for the first time in his life!). The NJ feeding tube in his nose was also the cause for many trips to the ER any time it got pulled out, so hopefully we'll be seeing the ER less (we have become quite the regulars there). And having so many tubes in his nasal cavity made any kind of congestion a real pain, so we’re also grateful his nasal cavity will be clear now.

The bronchoscopy will be led by the pulmonary team. They will send a three-way scope into his lungs (as best as I understand it) in order to try to determine the cause of Kaleb's oxygen dependency.

We hope/believe Kaleb's tongue tie has something to do with his inability to swallow without aspirating, so we're interested to see what happens once it is fixed. at the very least, he'll be able to finally hold his pacifier in his mouth and hopefully practice eating more easily.

Again, none of these procedures are very serious, but because Kaleb's heart is high risk, going under anesthesia is a big deal.

Please Pray:

  • For Kaleb’s safety during the procedure. He is at high risk going under anesthesia because of his heart problems, which is why they are doing so many things during this one procedure instead of spacing it out over multiple procedures.

  • Pray for a bed in the cardiac ICU to open up in case he needs to go there after surgery (otherwise he will be transferred to another ICU)

  • Pray for everything to go smoothly during the procedure, and pray that they are able to find some sort of answer during the bronchoscopy

  • Pray for continued opportunities to be a light at the hospital during Kaleb's stay, and also with our neighbors. Our relationships are developing with them and with hospital staff.

  • Pray for God to provide the adequate childcare needed during Kaleb's hospital stay. Last hospital stay made me realize that Kaleb is getting older and he misses his family more, so I want to try and be there more this time.

We are so grateful for each of you!
