Update #20: Post Chest Closure

Hi friends,

Kaleb’s chest closure was delayed due to scheduling issues on Monday but they were able to get it done late yesterday afternoon, praise the Lord!

For the most part all went well with the procedure. The surgeon mentioned there was “one blip”– 😅 not the most pleasant phrase from a surgeon– during the procedure he developed a conjunctional rhythm. The upper and lower chambers of the heart were out of sync which caused his heart rate to increase and blood pressure drop. They paused on the procedure and actually had to re-open his chest so that they could do an old trick of splashing cold water directly on onto his heart. Of course the cold water trick! Well, that old trick worked for Kaleb and they were able to proceed with closing his chest. I will keep that one tucked away for the future. hah.

Isn’t it Incredible how the Lord has designed us and sustains us! If you ponder with me for a moment, it’s truly incredible that we are all alive, everything in our bodies functioning, moment by moment, ever so very precisely providing us with this gift of life that we are able to enjoy. What a glorious Creator we have in our God and Father of Jesus Christ.

So far Kaleb is doing okay, as I mentioned previously in past updates post chest closure is expected to be another rough transition for him.

His blood pressure is being a bit whacky, so they have slightly increased his vent settings but will avoid any other big changes for the next 24 hours.

His red blood cell count is down, so they gave him another round of blood today.

They will keep him fully sedated and paralyzed in this time to give him as much rest as possible.

Thank you for being faithful supporters, church members, and friends. Your constant prayer and care are gifts of grace from our God that fill us with joy each and every day.

Love,
