The Daily Kaleb

Update #5, Tuesday October 7th

Yesterday (October 7th) we took both kids to see Kaleb, this time River did much better, she would even sit next to his bed with us. And Zion brought Kaleb some of his own art work to show Kaleb and to hang up in Kaleb’s room.

Unfortunately, Brittany was not able to hold Kaleb yet, because The doctors decided to put Kaleb back on a mild muscle relaxer. They believe they need to be a bit slower to bring him off these medications as his body didn’t adjust as well as they had hoped. Here are a few things they are noticing:

Update:

  1. He is doing an excellent job urinating on his own, no diuretic.

  2. They have found that his breathing is still restricted. It seems his lungs have some type of restriction (it could be a number of possibilities at this moment; underdeveloped lungs, restricted blood vessels, etc. or it could be that his body just needs more time to slowly adjust).

  3. They also found when he was off the muscle relaxer that his heart had a short episode of an arrhythmia where his heart rate increased and his blood pressure dropped. This is problematic.

  4. The did another echocardiogram and his right side of the heart is still enlarged and the left side still weak.

The Plan:

  1. Genetics sent off more genetic testing (whole genome sequencing tests) to see if they can find underlying causes.

  2. Give his body more time to rest, recover, and strengthen over the next 3-4 days.

  3. If his body does well, they will continue to be slow.

  4. If his heart isn’t showing signs of adjusting they will first go into his heart through a catheter and measure the blood pressures and flow inside his heart to better understand what’s going on.

  5. Then they will discuss next steps of a possible surgery.

Please Pray:

  1. The above for Kaleb

  2. In this exhausting time we are tempted to let our exhaustion be an open door for anger and discouragement; pray that the joy of the Lord would be our strength

  3. That we would surround Zion and River with the comfort and love of Jesus in this challenging time.

  4. Pray for perseverance for Brittany through pumping, hormonal changes, and challenging moments– especially with our two kids–as she recovers physically from childbirth. That she would keep her mind and heart fixed on the steadfast love of Christ in overwhelming moments.
