The Daily Kaleb

Update #22: Weekend Update

Kaleb is currently stable, it was a long weekend with a lot of ups and downs. They continue to slightly adjust his different medications or try new ones to help stabilize his heart.

2 steps forward, 1 step back.

Kaleb has been struggling with an arrhythmia he has had since surgery. Again, not uncommon to have coming out of an open-heart bypass surgery and there is hope his heart will put the rhythm of the upper and lower chambers back into sync.

However, this weekend his arrhythmia has become worse. His upper chamber rate got up into the 190s, while his lower ventricles (which haven’t been doing well) are beating much slower. This puts added stress onto his ventricles and valves that are already struggling.

His arrhythmia is the main area of concern at the moment, it’s been proving difficult to treat and hinders him from progressing forward. On Monday the different groups of doctors, particularly the Electrophysiologist, will discuss best options to treat his arrhythmia.

It seems his body is telling the doctors and nurses he needs to slow down in taking steps forward. The doctors and nurses are doing an amazing with caring for Kaleb, being careful to not push him too much and being willing to take a few steps back when he shows signs he needs to take things more slowly.

It’s amazing to hear and see the multitude of medical staff working so well together as a team to discuss how to adequately care for him.

A friend from our church, Mariah, who is a nurse at a nearby hospital, joined us on a family trip to the hospital on Saturday. While she was in the room with Brittany, Kaleb had a big episode with his arrhythmia. Brittany was enjoying a conversation with Mariah not knowing something was going on while the nurse was attending to Kaleb. Then a big group of medical staff came into the room and that immediately caught Brittany’s attention. After leaving the room Mariah commented on how calm and collected the medical staff was when Kaleb was having that episode. We could share many stories, like this one, of how extremely kind God has been in his grace to surround us with great care in this season. We are so very grateful for the care our boy is receiving! And every day we are astounded at the amount prayer and care we continue to receive from you all.

Prayer

  1. Pray for his lower and upper heart chambers to be in sync.

  2. Pray for continued strengthening of his valve repairs and his two ventricles.

  3. Pray for strength for us. Though we continue to know and feel we are carried by God’s grace, we are exhausted. 😆
