Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) #3

At 7:30am Thursday morning, we swept Zion and River into the van and headed to our appointment with Maternal Fetal Medicine. We both were clinging to the Lord’s steadfast love and faithfulness, seeking rest for our anxious hearts. Brittany at first turned on a devotional podcast but we were quickly met with our kids yelling and loud noises, okay plan B. Brittany turned on an album by Jess Ray she has been enjoying lately which includes a rendition of “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”with these lines,

“O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way
Leaning on the everlasting arms
O how bright the path grows from day to day
Leaning on the everlasting arms”

As we long to be at home with our Lord, freed from sin’s distortion and destruction of this world, I was reminded of the sweetness this pilgrim path brings. As we walk this path, God promises to beautify it by filling it with the radiance of His glory. He invigorates our peace and our joy as we continually let our full weight fall upon Him, resting in his everlasting arms.

On the way to the appointment we dropped Zion and River off with some sweet friends from our church, the Hake family. Every time we make the walk up to their front door, there, peering through the glass storm door, stands their family eagerly waiting to welcome us in. The warmth of these friends just before the appointment was the kindness of God.

The Appointment

As we arrived at our appointment we walked in with fresh wind in our sails. Brittany had a growth scan (ultrasound) and then we waited for the doctor to go over his current status, as well as talk through the findings of the specialists.

Before the doctor walked in Brittany and I reminded each other that this doctor tends to speak soberly, with a rather subdued demeanor. This was helpful to have as a filter as we prepared to hear her evaluation.

Unexpectedly, she let us know that our boy Kaleb IS GROWING! Although he is still measuring in the first percentile, his growth rate from the last growth scan to this one was on par with the average growth rate. She also told us his vitals are looking good and stable. We are praising God for this!

Picking up Zion and River, after the appointment, from the Hake family home.

Going Forward

Brittany will begin going in once a week to monitor Kaleb's growth and vitals, in addition to the cardiology appointments every two weeks to monitor his heart.

We are all the more actively looking for housing in Cambridge so that we can settle into our new home and life before baby Kaleb enters our lives.

The Kids SING, O SING!

After this last appointment Sovereign Grace Music just released their new album, Knowing God, so as a family we worshiped our God through song together. Enjoy this small glimpse in the video below as River dances around the speaker and Zion jumps around while singing. This video is set to private and can only be seen by those with a link.

“Has the Father’s love filled your longing heart
With grace for every need?
Come and lay your burdens at Jesus’ feet
And find new strength to sing, O sing”
