UPDATE: Neurology & OBGYN
Please Read To The End.
First of all, thank you thank you for all your prayers, notes of encouragement, and the many ways you all have served us.
Neurology Appointment
On this past Monday, we came in prepared to hear some hard information— a concern for a malformation of the brain in the cerebellum, specifically Dandy Walker Syndrome which is very broad in its level of severity. Instead we were met with a very kind, delightful, optimistic doctor who told us she didn't see enough convincing evidence to diagnose him with Dandy Walker (he doesn't show any additional signs in the imaging that usually come with Dandy Walker).
She did say there seems to be some abnormality with the development of his vermis and tonsils of the cerebellum (the vermis is a small section that divides the two sides of the cerebellum. The tonsils are located on the bottom section of the cerebellum). However, she mentioned it just might be slower to develop (3rd trimester is when a lot of brain development happens) OR perhaps it’s currently not visible on the ultrasound due to the limitations of ultrasound and the location of that area of the brain is hard to capture. It’s very difficult to say at this point what is going on from the imaging.
Overall it was a lot better appointment than what we were expecting! We talked about the path forward and she said she saw no need to see us again unless something worse develops. She does recommend an MRI post natal, which would give much more clarity. In the meantime we will continue meeting with MFM and cardiology to monitor Kaleb closely.
His Peace
Several times throughout the appointment the neurologist commented on our peaceful and hopeful attitudes and rational thinking. This teed us up perfectly to testify again to the peace that surpasses all understanding comes only from knowing the sovereign God and Father of our gracious Lord Jesus Christ.
OBGYN Appointment
Today, Brittany had a follow up appointment with her OB and the biggest concern seems to be the overall growth of the baby Kaleb. He isn’t showing signs he is growing much at all, he is only measuring in the first percentile at this point. If this doesn’t change the doctors would more than likely want to bring him out immediately, at the beginning of August (2 months early) so they can help him grow.
So Boston…
This makes things a bit more complicated with the timing of our move to Boston. The OB supports our move to Boston, due to the level of medical care we would receive. However, we would need to move sooner if we want to be in Boston for the birth of this child. That would require locking in an apartment very soon, which we have been trying to do for a few months (that’s the nature of the competitive market in Boston). So now we pray and ask for lots of wisdom for these next several weeks.
Marveling at Our God
Walking out of each one of these appointments we reflect and marvel on the rich goodness and wisdom of God for his children. His Spirit has filled our hearts with his life giving word to not fear, worry, or be anxious because HIS faithfulness –displayed perfectly in the gospel of Jesus– is our fortification our guarantee our peace (Phil. 4:6-7; 2 Corn. 1:20; Psalm 91; Isaiah 41:10; Joshua 1:9; John 14:27; Matthew 6:25-34).
We are so very grateful for you all! Thanks for praying.
