Update #11: Better than we expected

Yesterday, October 15th, as soon as we walked in the attending Cardiologist, Dr. Elizabeth Pace, who we have greatly appreciated her warm peppy and compassionate personality from the very beginning popped into Kaleb’s room to see us. She was eager to see how we were doing, to meet our other two kids, Zion and River, and share the good news of the results from the heart cath diagnostics (what I shared in Update #10)

Dr. Pace said none of the the staff were expecting the diagnostic report to come back with those results, in her words “It’s better than we expected. It’s really great.” As careful as they are with their words, that was the first time we have heard those words from a cardiologist. They were sweet words to fill our hearts. Especially because we know the King of the cosmos has gone before us!

Further Progress!

More good news, they started Kaleb back on a small amount of breast milk through a feeding tube. And he pooped!! Kaleb had his first dirty diaper and he continues to pee off the fluids without any diuretic to help. There are some things you never thought you would rejoice in a baby doing, this is one of them.

They are continuing to wean him off the ventilator and oxygen very slowly, he is showing signs that so far he is tolerating and adjusting to these changes.

The hopes would be for him to get to a stable condition without certain medications and the ventilator so that they can move him out of the CICU into a lower unit.

Looking Forward

At some point this week they will bring us into the conversation with the different teams about potential next steps:

  • The timing of surgical repair on his heart, potentially doing both atrium wall repair and valve repair at the same time.
